We understand that each person in this program comes with very diverse issues and problems. Conducted in Intensive Outpatient Programs
Psycho educational groups:
These groups provide a supportive environment in which clients learn about substance dependence and its consequences. These time-limited groups may be initiated at the beginning of treatment.
• Low-key rather than emotionally intense environment.
• Rational problem-solving mechanisms to alter dysfunctional beliefs and thinking patterns.
• Various forms of relapse prevention and skills training. Didactic components often are supplemented by videos or slides to accommodate different learning styles.
Skills-development groups:
These groups offer clients the opportunity to practice specific behaviors in the safety of the treatment setting. Common types of skills training include:
• Drug or alcohol refusal training. Clients act out scenarios in which they are invited to use substances and roles play their responses.
• Relapse prevention techniques. Using relapse prevention materials, clients analyze one another's personal triggers and high-risk situations for substance use and determine ways to manage or avoid them.
• Assertiveness training. Clients learn the differences among assertive, aggressive, and passive behaviors and practice being assertive in different situations.
• Stress management. Clients identify situations that cause stress and learn a variety of techniques to respond to stress.
Support groups (e.g., process-oriented recovery groups)
Members focus on immediate issues and on:
• Pragmatic ways to change negative thinking, emotions, and behavior
• Tolerating or resolving conflict without resorting to violence or substance use

Community Sentencing Program by Lifeworks Substance Abuse Services
We provide rehabilitation services to defendants charged with drug and alcohol-related offenses. The program’s objective is to provide an alternative to jail time for charges like DUI, possession and other drug-related charges. Drug Court has proven to be a successful alternative to incarceration but, unfortunately many offenders may not qualify, our aim is to fill that need.
Community Sentencing Program with a Conditional Suspended Sentence.
If the suspended sentence is conditional, the judge can hold off from either imposing or executing the punishment so long as the defendant fulfills the condition of the suspension. Conditions can include enrolling in a substance abuse program and not committing any further crimes. If the conditions aren’t met, the judge can then either impose or execute a sentence.
An offender will be subject to strict conditions. A breach of a community sentence can trigger an instant prison sentence. Offenders given a community sentence must also abide by strict curfews or prohibitions on who they can meet or what they can do. Those subject to drug rehabilitation orders face random testing for up to three years. Also, in order to successfully complete probation in the Community Sentencing Program an offender must move through three distinct phases of supervision and levels of care similar to Drug Court programs.
